Deacons are servant models in the church. They are men and women who model growth toward spiritual maturity. This is seen in their family life, in their morality, and in their care and ministry to persons. Four individuals are presently serving as Deacons at WGBC: Joe McRoy, Donald Johnson, Howard Trump, and Ken Clark.

On the eve of All Saints Day, 1517, a monk named Martin Luther nailed 95 theses (or points of discussion) on the door of the Castle Church in Wittenberg, Germany. Humanity is put right with God by God’s grace alone. It is not by the fantastic rituals of human penitance but “by grace alone.” This action of Luther was a continuing movement of men and women reading the Bible and understanding that humanity gets right with God by trusting God and God’s grace for salvation.

We baptize individuals who have made a commitment to God. They have turned from a commitment to self and have chosen to live in service and obedience to God. Baptism is an outward picture to the church as to what has happened within the inner spirit of the person. To immerse one under water is symbolic of death and burial to an old way of life. To come forth from the water is symbolic of the new way of life discovered in the Lord God. Our next baptism at WGBC is on the first Sunday of November, 2010.
